Spectacular Sounds at the Sarnoff Collection
Museum Day is an annual celebration of boundless curiosity hosted by Smithsonian magazine. This year, Museum Day celebrates the Smithsonian Year of Music, an institution-wide initiative celebrating the Smithsonian’s vast musical collections, and the Sarnoff is joining in on the fun with a variety of sound-related museum events to go with our temporary exhibit, In the Groove: A Century of Sound. The museum, and all exhibits, will be open from 11:00-4:00, with a variety of events happening throughout the day.
11:00: Curator-led tour of the main exhibit, Innovations that Changed the World
12:00: Make your own speaker! Visit our hands-on table to learn about how speakers work, and make and take home your very own cone speaker.
1:00: An improvisational musical performance by Kenny Lepping using electronic drumming
2:00: Make a Sound Sandwich! Visit our hands-on table to learn the basics of how vibrations produce sound by making a Sound Sandwich
3:00: Curator-led tour of the temporary exhibit, In the Groove: A Century of Sound
The Sarnoff Collection is located on the second floor of Roscoe West Hall on the campus of The College of New Jersey. Weekend visitor parking is available at the entrance to Parking Lot 17 as well as the visitor spots on the Education Circle. The doors to Roscoe West are directly opposite from the STEM building, and the museum is on the second floor.
