Second Sarnoff Innovation Lecture Explores the Early History of Microcircuitry

Second Sarnoff Innovation Lecture Explores the Early History of Microcircuitry

On Wednesday, November 12, David C. Brock, Senior Research Fellow at the Chemical Heritage Foundation, will speak about RCA and the Early History of Microcircuitry. His lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be at 5 p.m. in Roscoe West Hall.

David C. Brock is a historian of science and technology, who specializes in the history of semiconductor science, technology, and industry. In his lecture, he will discuss the notion of a community as the locus of innovation and the critical role of both RCA and New Jersey in the development of microcircuitry. Brock has studied the philosophy, sociology, and history of science at Brown University, the University of Edinburgh, and Princeton University, where he received an M.A. in the History of Science.

Brock’s publications include Makers of the Microchip: A Documentary History of Fairchild Semiconductor, co-authored with Christophe Lécuyer and published by MIT Press, and Understanding Moore’s Law: Four Decades of Innovation, for which he was editor and contributor. In the realm of public history, he has curated an exhibition on the history of instrumentation, titled Revolutionary Tools:  Instrumentation and the Transformation of the Chemical Sciences, and a major traveling exhibit on the history of women in chemistry.

The lecture is co-sponsored by the Sarnoff Collection and TCNJ’s School of Science. There will be a reception with light refreshments following the lecture.
